After Arthur and his friends had a fun first adventure in the world of the Minimoys, this sequel returns with new challenges in Arthur and the Minimoys 2 (Arthur et la vengeance de Maltazard). The film is still full of imagination and color, but there are points that may leave fans feeling less satisfied than expected.

Plot Summary (No Spoilers)

This sequel begins after the events of the first film. Arthur returns to his normal life, but then he suddenly receives a plea for help from Princess Selenia. The wizard Maltazard is back with a new evil plan. Arthur must travel to the forbidden city of Necropolis to stop him. Along the way, they face many obstacles, from giant spider webs to the wizard's minions. However, the story progresses in a linear fashion and lacks the complex excitement of the first film.

Performance and Characters

Freddie Highmore still voices Arthur with vitality, effectively conveying the character's courage and determination. Mia Farrow as Grandma is still warm and charming. However, the new character Jake (Logan Miller) is not as prominent as expected, and Princess Selenia's role seems diminished, making the relationships between characters less intense than in the first film.

Direction, Visuals, and Music

Luc Besson maintains his signature style of bright, imaginative visuals. The world of the Minimoys remains stunningly beautiful, especially the dark and eerie scenes in Necropolis. The musical score by Eric Serra is still melodious and enhances the mood well. However, the pacing is slow and lacks tightness, making some parts boring.

Editorial Analysis

Arthur and the Minimoys 2 still has the charm of the Minimoys world, but it fails to make as strong an impression as the first film. The main problem lies in the script, which lacks depth and insufficient character development. The film tries to add new characters and dangerous situations but cannot make the audience feel as connected as they should. However, for children, the film is still fun and visually appealing.

Verdict

For die-hard fans of the series, revisiting the world of the Minimoys is still enjoyable. But don't expect the same level of fun as the first film, as this one is full of flaws that make it less memorable. Suitable for children who like adventure animations and for those who want to continue from the first film only.
